Come hear a captivating and entertaining talk with Les Stroud, musician and star of the hit TV series Survivorman. Les anchors his tales on his life experiences and pulls from them lessons of building a career and striving towards success while overcoming obstacles. It is quite simply a message of passion. Passion for life. Passion for success. Passion for adventure.
Kalin’s passion for the outdoors began as a child, but things really took off in 1991, when his oldest
friend introduced him to the magic of Ontario’s Algonquin Provincial Park. That first canoe trip sparked a commitment to spending as much time as possible outdoors that continues to this day.
An experienced paddler, Kalin is just as likely to spend the day catching eddies and surfing river waves in his whitewater solo canoe, as he is to explore by SUP or touring kayak. He’s also been known to cast a line from his fishing kayak or introduce non-paddling friends to the magic of moving water from the safety of his raft. And over 30 years later, Kalin still enjoys long canoe trips, as they’re the perfect opportunity to truly spend time in nature. Kalin actively works in Yukon’s wilderness tourism industry through his company Eddyline. He is President of the Wilderness Tourism Association of the Yukon (WTAY), Co-Chair of the Yukon Wild Marketing Committee and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon (TIA Yukon). Kalin is both proud of, and passionate about, his Yukon home and embraces every opportunity to promote it.
Although paddling is his primary area of expertise, Kalin enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities from cycling, to alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and hiking. But he doesn’t run. For any reason.
Jackie has a deep connection with nature and is happiest when gardening, interacting with animals or exploring the outdoors, whether on an adrenaline pumping hike or lounging on the dock with her friends.
Jackie is deeply passionate about Canadian and Manitoban tourism, doing all she can to encourage others to fully embrace what her home has to offer. When not exploring locally, she can be found travelling the world learning what else is out there.
Dan grew up in Yellowknife, where he lives today with his partner Caitlyn & cat Minou. He is grateful for true wilderness access and is a proud northerner.
Dan is an experienced guide and paddling instructor, who will always get excited to explore a new remote route by canoe and kayak.
As the owner of Jackpine Paddle, Dan dedicated his early career to public service and politics. He has a masters degree in Political Science, first ran for territorial legislature at the age of 18, and served as a Yellowknife City Councillor from 2012-2015.
Smart enough to get out of politics, Dan founded Jackpine Paddle in 2016. Since then the business has grown to the adventure of his life (and full-time preoccupation).
Dan is blessed with mixed ancestry and a forever youthful appearance. Believe it or not, he is almost 40. Life is short, go for a paddle!
Danna started her career in Polar Expeditions 10 years ago. She has been all over the polar regions by ship and on foot. She loves Antarctica and all its glory. She can talk endlessly about her experiences there, and her friends live vicariously through her expeditions. But Danna has a deep seeded passion and respect for the Arctic.
Growing up in the mountains of British Columbia Canada, and being close to the Arctic, she felt it was an easy reach. She spent her young adult years listening to Canadian folk singer Stan Rogers, who sang passionately about Canadian history, the Northwest Passage, and the Bluenose Ship. She says his baritone voice, and traditional songs, lead her to where she is today. She still gets goose bumps when she talks about the History of Franklin and how she feels when she stands on Beachy Island in the Canadian Arctic.
Danna has an arctic library that she uses for inspiration and exploration daily. She worked with a team of Explorers in 2014 to assist with the great find of the HMS Erebus. Her knowledge both past and present in the Canadian arctic is extensive.
Danna believes that sustainability, education, and passion are the most important part of travel. You must see it to believe it, and you must believe it to care. And to Care is to protect. Danna wants to explore and travel to many more remote places in the world. And she believes that traveling by ship is one of the best ways to do that.
During the last 25 years she has raised two children, hiking them around the mountains in BC, and living close to her large family. When they travel, she tells them “Check in with me, explore passionately, and don’t come home until you’re done” and she says they almost always listen to her.
